The Tide started with Red Guru humming the central hook. That original melodic fragment became the piano motif around which the finished song was directed. Strings widen the atmosphere while hip-hop percussion and layered R&B vocals create forward movement.
Lyrically, the song looks at familiar pressure: the same ceiling, bills waiting and a mind trying to stay above the noise. The image of a tide gives the track its emotional movement.
